Bing at one month – :)

July 5th, 2009

I did not enjoy previous search experiences presented by Microsoft – I sampled them and found them to be full of less than optimized results (too much junk or non-relevant content and results full of ‘index’ sites.)

I like the new presentation of Bing (a nice daily photo with an un-cluttered layout.) At this point it seems that Bing delivers highly relevant and quality results (well, at least for my test searches.) I will continue to visit the site – I think this is a thumbs up over previous ventures.

Does this mean that I might put Bing as my first stop for Internet searches? Not yet – as a webmaster (i.e. I review web access logs) I see splintered traffic from Microsoft search resources (MSN, Live.com, Bing.com, etc.) In addition, when you get a hit from a Microsoft engine you don’t see the entire picture of what may have brought the visitor to you (I should be able to enter the search terms and get close to the same results; Microsoft SE’s don’t provide the info.)

There needs to be a unified front from Microsoft – I won’t trust it until I see that, like Google, there is serious support (long term) for the engine as well as support for web content suppliers (i.e. clear ‘refer’ links.)

Microsoft – please select and stick by one of your solutions – and don’t stop half-way – commit – Bing looks like a good choice. :)
