Refresh Savannah: The Social Media Food Chain
Refresh Savannah – NG – nerd gathering and a bit more. [next gathering 6/16/06, topic SEO, at Lady & Sons]
Last night (5/18/09) the 1st meeting of Refresh Savannah occurred at the office of Music Intelligence Solutions in Savannah. It was a diverse gathering of folks interested in NN (nerd networking – opportunties to expand brain cell use along with some interesting discussions about social media, social networking sites and social computing in general.)
From the Refresh Savannah web:
“Refresh is a community of web designers, developers, and other new media professionals working together to refresh the creative, technical, and professional aspects of their trades in the Washington, DC Savannah area.
Our goal is simple: bring together the best and brightest new media professionals in the DC metro Savannah area so that we may learn from one another. Our industry is too rich for any one person to “know it all.” That’s where we come in.”
Kevin Lawver delivered a presentation covering types of social networking sites as well as discussing some of the technologies and issues surrounding the current trends in Internet social networking sites. Some take-aways include links (of course) to sites discussing/focused on where this seems to be going as well as how things work. Bottom line, simple wins over complex (easy to use social networkings sites [any web site or app targeting the 'general' public should keep things simple] will have more users/traffic than those that are not simple…)
After hearing Kevin’s comments I’m curious enough to check out the sites below – perhaps more afterwards.
