Fedora 10 install problems
Could just be me…
Could just be luck of the draw…
But…
When I tried to install FC10 from the Live CD (downloaded on 12/30/2008) I had disk problems after the install completed. I was testing with somewhat older hardware (~5 years, FC9 system that was working without issues.) After what seemed to be a ‘normal’ install and reboot the system did boot but disk errors began showing up almost immediately. Since the file system was newly formatted either I was seeing hardware failure or there was some level of disk/file corruption due to the FC10 install. I installed three times (twice using the a text mode install and once with the GUI.) After each install I could login as ‘root’ but I was immediately presented with IO/disk error messages. Running ‘fsck’ did fix whatever the problem was…
Ok – I decided to go back to FC 9. I do a ‘full install’ including disk format using the same logical drive. Hmm – the install completes without problems, the system boots without issues and all seems fine with FC9…
I am ruling out problems with hardware or disk failure – this might be:
- FC 10 specific hardware related issue?
- FC 10 DVD image problem? corrupt download? (in which case more error checking is needed…)
- FC 10 new tool problems? disk tools?
I will download a new FC10 DVD image and try again…. (the current DVD disk did pass the media check.)
Anyone else seeing similar issues with the FC10 DVD? (based on time stamps the ISO image was created on 11/19/08.)
